Incheon Metropolitan City Museum, also known as Incheon Municipal Museum, was the first public museum in Korea. Incheon Metropolitan City Museum opened in April 1946 after Korea gained independence from the Japanese. The museum underwent a major transformation then officially reopened on July 10, 2006 adding more spacious exhibition halls and facilities such as a cafeteria and , a library and a common space where people could learn about the local history of Incheon and surrounding areas. Other facilities is following :

Auditorium Hall is Equipped with 200 seats, this is frequented by groups of university conferences, symposiums and other big events.

Special Exhibition Hall is sized up to 330 square meters, the space normally holds the museum’s own speical exhibitions or projects or showcase invitational events from other museums.

Seminar Room for small meetings and educataional sessions are held.

Computer Zone for visitors can look for museum’s index at 2 computer desks .

Library is Opened area. There are various collections of books, maps, digital contents and many more.

For 60 years, the museum has been hosted many exhibitions, musical performances and other cultural and social events for the public. This museum , 5,830.93㎡area site with 1 basement floor and 3 ground floors, has also been served as historical space for Incheon citizens and visitors to learn the stories of Incheon, which played a significant role in protecting the Korean peninsula from many invasions in the past. In addition, Museum is constantly dedicated to the research and the regional preservation programs founded within the region’s site, and offered many ancient artifact exhibitions hard to find elsewhere.

Going forward into development and population increases in Incheon City, the museum is continuing to gather more relics and local knowledge management for next generations in Korea and around the world to learn and enjoy.
