Sujebi is  a simple dish enjoyed by Koreans young and old, and consists of hand-pulled dough dumplings in a warm soup with lots of potatoes, zucchinis, and other delicious ingredients. One of the most famous restaurants in Seoul where you can try delicious, affordable and authentic sujebi Is actually in Samcheong-dong, and is actually called Samcheong-dong Sujebi!

There is always a very long line of people waiting outside the restaurant, but there are many seats inside and turnover is very fast, so be patient! The dish is served in a small clay pot with kimchi, which is made fresh daily at the restaurant. The clay pot is served in the middle of the table, which you take from- and you can use their soy sauce to add extra depth to the dish! The softness of the dumpling is an addictive texture and taste that will have you coming back for more!

From the outside the store may not look like much, but we think it just means that the store is authentic and down to earth- you know you are getting the original flavor of the sujebi that has been passed down for generations!

Samcheongdong Sujebi is very popular with Koreans, so we recommend you try to avoid the lunch rush! 11.30-1.30 is the peak time, so go a little earlier or later. It is also very popular with Japanese and Chinese tourists!

Other popular items include dondongju, a traditional Korean liquor made from makkeoli, as well as their pancakes. (Gamja jeong is a potato pancake that doesn’t use any other ingredients!)

The inside is fairly cramped with lots of small tables and the menus are printed on the wall in clear, legible font to make it easy to read! The portions can be a bit intimidating however, so be sure to go hungry!

Sujebi (7000 won) is served in a bowl for one person or in a jar for two persons. Gamjajeon (감자전, 7000 won) and Dongdongju (동동주, 3000 won).

This is not the potato pancake but another type of pancake! It is delicious with crispy edges, and taste amazing as an accompaniment to the sujebi dish!

Each table comes with fresh kimchi to add a crispy bite to the sujebi, as well as a soy sauce for you if you want to add a bit more kick. We recommend you taste the sujebi first and add a little bit of soy sauce- because it all depends on your preference!

Get off the subway at Gyeongbokgung Station (Subway Line 3), follow the wall of the Gyeongbokgung Palace and you’ll find yourself facing a street. This street leads directly to Samcheong-dong. As you enter Samcheong-dong and walk towards the Samchong-dong Tunnel, you’ll come across Samcheongdong Sujebi.
